Pakistan: Mango volumes down due to extreme weather

Mangoes have been significantly affected by extreme weather this year. First it suffered a drought and now very heavy rains.

Waheed Ahmed, the Chairman of All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association, has placed crop losses at 25 to 30 per cent.

The target of 150,000 tons for export will be difficult to realise due to quality and volume issues.

Most of the local produce has been send to Iran and Afghanistan to satisfy the demand as well as to regular export destinations. There has also been a rise in domestic demand which together with the drop in supply has led to a rise in price with prices Rs10 higher last year.
