Europatat wants to strengthen potato sector

During the Europatat congress from 27-29 May 2010 in the Scottish capital Edinburgh the general assembly has approved new statutes and internal rules, which aim to create a modern and efficient structure for the European seed and consumption potato trade to strengthen the voice of the sector in Europe.
The Europatat president Kees van Arendonk (Netherlands) was proud to present the result of the project 'Europatat 2010' launched by his predecessor Joop Stet and taken up by him and the secretary general Romain Cools during the last two years.

These new statutes, together with the internal rules have founded a new structure which will create a balance between the national associations and Europatat. To enable the European association to be continuously updated on trade issues and to respond to all legal action on EU level in a quick and efficient way the activities of Europatat will be delegated to specialised sections composed out of representatives of national associations and individual companies.

To organise and execute this work the Europatat board will be advised by an advisory committee composed out of the representatives of these commissions and supported by a secretariat organised independently from national secretariats.

During the congress Frédéric Rosseneu from Belgium has been presented as the new Europatat secretary general. Frédéric Rosseneu is currently an advisor at Freshfel, the European association for the trade in fresh fruit and vegetables in Brussels.

He will succeed Romain Cools who has been the face of Europatat for the last 15 years as from July 1 onwards. The new structures will be installed during the second part of 2010 and the first semester of 2011.
