Canada: High land prices challenge blueberry sector

High land prices in British Columbia are making it very difficult for berry farmers to expand their businesses. A blue berry farmer told biv.com that it was not viable to buy land today and expect a return in 10 years.

In B.C. the price of land is between $75,000 and $100,000 per acre and remains one of the most expensive places in North America to grow berries. Land in the next most expensive state, Washington costs $20,00 per acre and in Michigan it is as low as $4,000 per acre.
