More berries now processed in Mexico

MEXICO's Agri-food and Fishery Information Service (SIAP), part of the ministry of agriculture (SAGARPA), has revealed that berry production (strawberry, blackberry, raspberry and blueberry) in the country grew 6.4% during 2008/09.

Statistics from SIAP put berry production for 2009 at 364 156 tonnes, a 22 000 tonne increase on previous year figures. Strawberry production grew to 24 109 tonnes and blueberry to 1 445 tonnes. The value of Mexican berry fruits also grew 25% in 2009.
