Del Monte sells South African canning business

RHODES Food Group (Pty) Ltd, the South African based food producer, is to buy the South African fruit canning operations of USA-based Fresh Del Monte Produce Corporation, subject to regulatory approval.

Rhodes Food Group has fruit and vegetable canning operations in the Western Cape, Limpopo and Swaziland and its products are sold globally under the Rhodes brand and various leading supermarkets' private labels. The company also produces chilled ready meals and is a major player in the South African pie market with its Magpie brand.
